  • Notes
    • Family changed name from Abeles to Abel in 1882.....info on his birth registration - obtained 17 Sept 2003 at IKG in Vienna.

First name of wife from obit of (Rosa) Hermine Abel (mother of Paul).
That obit, found Sept. 2003 in Vienna says she died Tuesday 8 May 1823 in her 78th year. Lawyer's widow.
      Names listed:
      Dr. Paul and Hedwig Abel
Prof Dr. Emil and Milla Abel
      Stefan - grandchild
      Marianne - grandchild

So, not clear whether Stefan and/or Marianne are children of Paul or Emil.

A check of www.movinghere.org.uk shows Paul Abel, with correct birth date, lawyer, living at 7 Belzize Grove and being exempt from internment.

There is also a Fanny Abel, born 15/5/1986 in Vienna, a housewife, also living at 7 Belzize Grove -- I wonder if this is his wife and if Fanny and Hedwig are the same person.

      www.dormantaccounts.ch -- swiss accounts show:
      Abel, Paul [Vienna, Austria] [6]
      Abel, Emil
      Abel, Frau Hedwig
      Abel, Paul [1]

I don't know what the numbers in brackets mean -- I assume the names under Paul indicate that these were his
beneficiaries.... Emil being his brother and Hedwig being his wife.

Marilyn Gross Rinzler remembers that her mother (Gerda Fried Gross) knew a Paul Abel. But, she does not remember any other information about him. (March 2004).

In Margarete Bondi Kelsen's address book I find: Abel, Paul: 252 Grove End Gardens, London NW8 (She died in 1973 -- and the address is not crossed out or changed -- so she must not have heard from him for quite a while -- he would have been 99 in 1973 if still alive.)

According to www.1837online.com (UK index for BDM) Paul died during period of Ap/May/Jun of 1971, born 21 Mr 1874; St. Marlebone; Vol 59 p. 2012.

From Frau Weiss at IKG - E-mail of 28 July 2004 -- Dr. Paul Abel, married Hedwig Bachrach in 1902. Dr. Emil Abel married Camilla Adler in 1911, they had twins in 1915, Lisa and Stefan. Marianne we do not know, maybe she was not born in Vienna or after 1917, here the year must be known, too.

Update: from IKG cemetery database -- find death of Hedwig Abel in 1929. So, I am assuming that Fanny is second wife.(July 28, 2004).

      Update: found Frances/Fanny died 1984 on 1837online. (Aug 2004)

Exact death date from death registration received from UK (via 1837online.com)
