Notes - I assume Rosa Hermine was married to a Mr. Abel because she is listed as Hermine Abel geb. Bondi in the obit for Theodor Bondi -- and she is listed as his sibling. The husband is not listed separately -- so he is probably already dead (1895).
She is also listed as Mrs. Hermine Abel, sister in 1899 obit of Ferdinand Bondi.
In Vienna Jewish Births -- I found a Gisela Hedwig Bondy born on Oct. 15, 1884 to Johann Theodor Bondy ...something from
Prague and Marie geb. Tandler. One of the witnesses is Dr. Ignaz Abell.
In Theodor's obit, his sister, Rosa Hermine is listed as Hermine Abel geb. Bondi -- thus I would assume that the Dr. Ignaz Abell is the husband of Rosa Hermine. However, Dr. Ignaz is not listed in Theodor's obit -- thus can assume he died between 1884 and 1894.
Death date comes from grave in Zentral-Friedhof (she shares grave with her mother)...name on grave is Hermine Abel (says
born 29 January 1846-d. 8 May 1923). According to cemetery information (obtained when I visited cemetery), she was buried 10 May 1923.
(I don't have the print-out for her).
I have found death reg. for Hermine Abel, geb. Bondi, geboren in Prague, zust.(residence) in Vienna. gives her birthdate as
29 Jan 1846 -- which I already had.
I originally assumed that Dr. Ignaz Abell is husband of Rosa....
Bondi -- thus it might be possible that the Dr. Ignaz Abell is the husband of Rosa Hermine. However, Dr. Ignaz is not listed in Theodor's obit -- thus he may have died between 1884 and 1894.
Update (June 2003) -- according to correspondence with Celia Male who is searching for info on Peter Drucker on behalf of someone writing a biography of him and trying to learn about his Jewish heritage), it turns out that Dr. Ignaz Abell is a brother of Sara/Lotte/Charlotte Abeles....thus, he is an uncle of Johann Theodor Bondi . This Dr. Ignaz Abell is mentioned twice on the marriage reg. of Ferdinand Bondi and Berta Prager. It says that Dr. Ignaz Abell and Julius Abell, brothers of Ferdinand's mother Lotte, werre involved in the legalities for the wedding -- and that Dr. Ignaz Abell was a signatory in lieu of the groom's father (Herz Bondi -- who was no longer alive).
It is possible that Dr. Ignaz was not listed in the obits because he was an "uncle" rather than a brother-in-law....
Thus, my original assumption that Rosa Hermine was married to Dr. Ignaz may be wrong so I am changing her husband's name to XX Abel -- since she buried under the name Abel.
Her obit, found Sept. 2003 in Vienna says she died Tuesday 8 May 1823 in her 78th year. Lawyer's widow.
Name listed:
Dr. Paul and Hedwig Abel
Prof Dr. Emil and Milla Abel
Stefan - grandchild
Marianne - grandchild
My assumption about which Abeles she was married to was completely wrong -- During visit to IKG September 2003, I asked Frau Weiss to check her database re. Rosa Hermine Bondi -- she found that the husband was Alexander Abeles (Dr. of law)....and then she checked his death registration -- he died 29 Aug 1877 in Vienna at age 41, from Ceredice (Saaz) Bohemia. He died of pleurisy ...was buried 30 Aug 1877 in Wahringer cemetery.
She also found that there were 3 children: Ida Abeles born 1868; Paul Abeles b. 21 March 1874 in Vienna; Emil b. 2 June 1875 in Vienna. Then she looked at the birth registrations of Paul and Emil -- there she found handwritten notes that in 1882 (after the father died) the family CHANGED the name from Abeles to Abel..... that explains the name on Rosa Hermine's grave.... For more on Paul and Emil, see notes under them.
Frau Weiss did not find any marriage info on Alexander Abeles and Rosa Hermine -- so they did not marry in Vienna.
Alexander Abeles' obit says -- Lawyer, died in 41st year after much suffering on Wed. 29 Aug 1877 in Vienna. Names listed are: Hermine Abeles geb. Bondi, wife; Ida-child; Paul-child; Emil-child.
I now suspect that Alexander Abeles, husband of Rosa Hermine, may be same person as Alexander Abeles (b. 13 May 1837 in Ceradice) -- who is nephew of Sara Lotte/Charlotte Abeles (mother of Rosa Hermine). Since Alexander died in 1877 and was in 41st year (i.e. was 40) when he died, this would make his birthday in 1837 -- which is exactly the year of the Alexander (brother of Sara Lotte/Charlotte). Thus this is probably a 1st cousin marriage.
This guess turns out to be correct -- the IKG on-line cemetery database shows Alexander Abeles, born May 13, 1837 and died Aug 29, 1877. Wahringer Friedhof, Group 9, Grave 63. This birthdate exactly matches the birthdate of Alexander Abeles, neice of Sara/Lotte Abeles Bondi. So, he is Rosa Hermine's ist cousin.
Marriage date from Paul Abel...tho he is certain of the year, he is not quite sure of the exact date.
He says they were engaged on 9 June 1866 -- while Rosa Hermine still lived in Prague. Alexander Abeles was already living in Vienna then.
Marriage registration from Prague (rec'd April 2005 from Steins) shows marriage date was 17 Feb 1867. The record also has a note that says she changed the name from Abeles to Abel in 1888.
- I assume Rosa Hermine was married to a Mr. Abel because she is listed as Hermine Abel geb. Bondi in the obit for Theodor Bondi -- and she is listed as his sibling. The husband is not listed separately -- so he is probably already dead (1895).
