According to his descendant Kurt Honberg:
"Joseph Hanoch Hoenigsberger's grandfather was Joseph Hanoch, born in Vienna in the 17th century. When the jews were driven out of Vienna the Hanochs together with cousins and in-laws bought permits for domicile in Neustadt from the Duke of Suzbach. When the Duke needed more money he chased the Jews out of Neustadt and sold them property in Floss. At the end of the 17th century a law was passed that the Jews had to have German names. That is how Hanoch became Honig (honey). After a few years the Jews became too successful and the Floss citizens wanted the Jews out. The Duke sold them land on a hill outside of Floss. Thus the family name became Hoenigsberger (honey of the mountain). "
It would appear from the records that this is not exactly so, see the shtetl site for Floss on jewishgen.org for more accurate information on the founding of Floss. Also it was a much earlier ancestor who might have departed from Vienna.
